Je suis Smith: A Report on Europe

'On the 8th January 2015, the COBRA Committee convened over the attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine and a Jewish supermarket in Paris.' (Cobra res.)

'Home Secretary Theresa May, speaking after chairing a meeting of UK government emergency committee Cobra, said security had been increased at the France/UK border - notably at the Eurostar rail terminal in Paris and the Channel Tunnel entrance at Calais.

'Prime Minister David Cameron said the attack was a "challenge to our security" and "threat to our values".' (Casciani.)

'Following this meeting, COBRA RES invited a selection of artists to respond to the Committee, and/or the event and its context.' (Cobra res.)

Smith and I received the call from COBRA RES curator Theodore Price on the 12th January. The next day we were on a train bound for continental Europe.

On the 23rd June 2016 Britain voted to leave the European Union.
