Call for Contributing Editors (ongoing until filled)

Liminalities: A Journal of Performance Studies seeks nominations and self-nominations for a re-visioned editorial board of up to 15 contributing editors. Contributing editors are responsible for vetting submissions, soliciting submissions, and working with artists/authors of accepted projects to help ensure contributions are publication-ready. Contributing editors are also encouraged to contribute an essay or project during their editorial tenure, with a mandate to "think big." Contributing editors have autonomy regarding review process and choosing reviewers. In lieu of a large, static review board, we will maintain and publish a list of reviewers who donate their academic and creative labor each year. Contributing editors coordinate efforts and decisions with the editor-in-chief and managing editor.

The purpose of this model of editorial board is to horizontalize decision-making of the journal contents; to ensure greater distribution of theories, methods, topics, discourses, goals, disciplinary intersections, and approaches to performance studies; and to ensure greater geographic and overall representation of decision makers that reflects our authorship and readership. The overarching value is rigor and excellence through equity, inclusion, and diversity.

The new Liminalities editorial board will build upon the success of the journal's 15+ year history, including our special issues and ongoing series: The City, Digital Horizons, and Performance & Pedagogy. Contributing editors can manage new or existing thematic series or contribute more generally in their specialization areas. Composition of the board of contributing editors will be guided by: (i) maximizing a diversity of specializations across topics of, methods for, and orientations to performance studies, broadly construed; and (ii) ensuring international diversity in editorial representation. We will continue to publish in English and maintain our acceptance of multiple style guides and spelling conventions as long as they are used consistently across individual contributions.

We hope to start welcoming new contributing editors during 2021 and to continue building the board until full. Contributing editors are invited to serve three year terms with negotiable extensions. The eventual goal is to have staggered service times to maintain continuity.

Nominations, self-nominations, and inquiries should be sent to editor-in-chief Michael LeVan (michael.levan@gmail.com) with a note describing the reasons for the nomination (or self-nomination) and a list of specialization areas in terms of topics, methods, and orientations to performance studies.

Liminalities continues to seek contributions from scholars and artists in the form of original essays, creative work, audio and video essays and projects, digital and multimedia projects, themed forums, interviews, reviews and criticism, and proposals for special issues.
