The Slave Shack

So where were the women within this space? I saw them everywhere in the gestures and actions of daily living. The wash bowls reminded me of my grandmother's house in South Carolina . The hanging towels were for clean up. The hair straightening comb meant that the women were trying to look nice even as they adopted the standards of white beauty. Perhaps it was the back door that first made me think about the idea of a garden; this could be a place to plant the flowers and herbs that could nourish and cure the pains of operations.
